Nancy,
What a wonderful homage to mama's....it's funny that you use the word MAMA instead of Mother because my daughter recently got a tattoo with an ax and under the ax is the word MAMA - everyone asks her what the ax stands for and she states that my MAMA taught me how to fight....so there you go!

Now as for my MAMA - well she taught me in her own unique way. She was a victim all her life so in turn she taught me how to NOT be a victim of circumstance and from all the negative things that she carried I learned all the positive things to be. Yes from my past! Also, I learned her passion for cooking, feeding people, her heart of love for her family. So those are the wonderful things that she did pass onto me.

In gratitude to you,
Nancy

My mom, widowed with 3 small children at age 28, taught me that I could live a meaningful life after losing my own husband when I was 25. Not the only thing she taught me, by far. But that was pretty powerful.

Love what you've put together here Nancy.

About my mom. I have to admit it's one of those things that until you're a parent you don't fully appreciate all that they've done for you. Sadly that's true of me. But at least now I've learned it as a mom of three boys :-)

I am so incredibly grateful for the legacy my mom imparted to me. Here are some of the reasons why.

When going through college as a young adult I dreamed of maybe being a big fancy career lady. I would flip through the fashion magazines thinking success would be having a high powered life style in the corporate world.

But my life didn't turn out anything like that.

I never did enter the corporate world.

Instead what was tugging at my heart was that I so wanted to get married and start a family. Much like the example my mom set for me. She did pick up her teaching career after my youngest brother got
started in school.

My parents also demonstrated leadership in our local community always serving on one committee or another. Forming a 4-H Club for us kids to participate in... singing in the church choir their entire lives (even to this day!)... tutoring children in our home... rounding up book clubs at our local library. The list goes on and one.

Through their example they helped me to develop a life long love of learning. Every time I'm at their home there's yet another pile of books they're reading and discussing together.

My mom taught me industry of the home. Cooking, cleaning, baking, sewing, gardening, nutrition(remember Adelle Davis!), the arts and even salesmanship! She was the one who sent me out in the neighborhood as a very young child (eight years old, I'm guessing)to sell my homemade
knitted Christmas bells. I sold them all and owe my business success and entrepreneurialism in part to that experience.

Thank you mom!

She taught me love of family.

So much so that when my husband and I were engaged we sat down in our soon to be apartment as a married couple. I remember explicitly (like it was yesterday) telling my husband to be that no matter how poor we would possible become is that I always wanted to be the one to raise our children. I did not want to put them second to a career.

And that desire of mine became a reality. I definitely held down a number of jobs (and MLMs :-)during our married life but I was always the main care giver to our children.

I did not want to look back and regret not having spent more time with them.

I even went on to home educate them for twelve years. This was a life transforming time for me. I was the greater beneficiary by being able to go through a second education and then to share that with my children. It doesn't get much better than that!

This led me to form a corporation with my eldest son for us to not only generate an income as a family but more importantly serve a life mission that was given to us. It is the legacy my parents passed on through me.

I owe all this to the values my mom taught me. Love of family and appreciation for all I have.

This verse summaries my feelings best of all.

"The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance."

Thank you mom!

Thank you Nancy for the experience to be able to share these feelings about my mom. I'm a total sap and have tears in my eyes. I have truly been blessed with an amazing mom. Here's to more amazing moms. Our world sure needs them.

Your friend,

My Mom was also my best friend. I started a Charity in Her Memory!

Eddie Dutton from the South Florida Cancer Association put my video on you tube. The holidays are upon us - why not buy a friend or loved one a gift of a pair of stunning earrings, and help another woman in the process? Here's why:

Hi Mentor Mama:

We could always count on mom to do the best and provide the best for us. She gave us advice that as we grew older, we realized and understand how valuable what she taught us was. Reading, riting and rithmatic will takes us far. Study hard, learn a lot and apply are the keys to our growth and development. Wise advice from mom. Thanks Mentor Mama

To me, words are not enough to quantify or qualify what my mum means to me. The most useful of all she taught me is To Be Strong, Focused and Purposeful. When it comes to diligence and independence, my mum is my sole role model. Whatever height of success/greatness I attain, I'm always indebted to thanking her for being such a wonderful mother. :)

It is not so much what my Mom has taught me, though it has been alot...To me it's more about what she's done for me....how she's always made me feel....of who she is, and in turn who I became because of her...and in spite of myself...

My Mom (and Dad) adopted me at birth...and have been my parents from that day on, and continue still everyday that I am blessed to still have themin my life...The greatest gift I received from my Mom? Her and my Dad searching for me..and finding me in Lackawanna NY at "Our Lady of Victory", where my biological Mom was selfless and smart enough to give me up for adoption, since she was only 15 or so at the time of my birth...Back to topic...MY MOM, Janet Coccimilgio...she taught me to love unconditionally, to be fair, to be kind, to be tough when need be, to stand up for myself, to be generous and loving...to forgive, but not always forget, to kiss and hug, cuddle and say I love you often..daily, hourly...whenever you feel the need to, and even more so when you don't...she taight this all to me by showing me daily...Her love for me is nothing short of amazing...spectacular and perfect...At 47 yrs old I still am the LUCKIEST "little girl" in the world...for I was not born under my Mom's heart, but in it..and was showed this everyday of my life...And now I am a Mom to 2 great kids, 14 and 11, boy/girl...and because of my Mom...I know just what to do...so her loving ways have now been passed on to her grandchildren as well....The day I went home w/ my Mom (& Dad) was the greatest day on earht for me...for I am blessed beyond belief and never, ever forget it..Thank you for reading this...for my Mom deserves public recognition for her wonderful way...and I just love her SOOOOOO MUCH...it's hard to even say!!! God Bless one and all!!!! ANd rememeber to tahnk, kiss and tell your Moms you love them...they always want to hear it, even if they know it...
